Phone-based systems require the worker to be conscious and able to act, while a lone worker monitor does not. If a worker falls and cannot get up, the device detects it automatically. If gas levels rise and the worker is incapacitated, the device keeps transmitting. The alert is sent regardless of the worker’s ability to respond.

Blackline EXO 8: Portable Area Monitor

The EXO 8 is a portable area monitor designed for deployment at specific locations, such as confined-space entry points, perimeter zones, temporary worksites, or fencelines, rather than for individual use.

It monitors up to eight gases simultaneously with a swappable cartridge system and optional gas expansion module, and can also detect gamma radiation. The battery lasts up to 100 days, and it connects to Blackline Live via 4G LTE, with an optional satellite module for remote locations.

The EXO 8 is not a personal monitor and does not replace the G6 or G7 for individual protection. It provides area-level coverage, monitoring zones for early warning of gas events or radiation changes. For safety programs that require both personal and site-level monitoring, the G7 and EXO 8 integrate via Blackline Live, providing safety coordinators with a unified dashboard for worker status and atmospheric conditions.
